Toasting summer's end

Opera Night caps 2006 music season

Elegant music returns to the lake with Opera Night on Saturday, September 9.

Emerald Lake's own Peter Girardot leads critically acclaimed Trio Amore in an entertaining program of popular Italian songs, favorite arias, and show tunes.

Lake's 1947 production of Das Rheingold faltered
when Rhine maidens became entagled in tule grass.

Trio Amore features members of the San Francisco Opera: tenor Peter Girardot, soprano Maria Fassio-Pignati and keyboard player Ron Borreli. Guest singers Janet Girardot, and Daniel Floyd round out the talented ensemble.

Buy tickets early at the guard shack for a $5 discount on day-of-performance prices. Early bird prices are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, and $15 for students. (No charge for guests 13 and under.)

Price of admission includes a no-host bar and hors d'oeuvres. Contacts are Ellen Spector (366-3743 or ellenspector@yahoo.com) and Carl Touhey (368-2216 or ctouhey@earthlink.net).

Thank you, Eddy!

To the children of Emerald Lake, Eddy Bird has been much more than a watchful lifeguard - he's been a friend, a medic, a teacher, and a conflict mediator.

After 10 years, Eddy is moving on to new challenges. Please join us for Eddy's Retirement Party on Saturday, September 16 at 7 PM. (Yes, the 16th, not the 9th.) The format is potluck, so bring a favorite dish and help us celebrate Eddy's decade of service to Emerald Lake.

Lights, laptop, action!

Movie night draws curtain on summer

Building on the enthusiastic response to last year's revival, Movie Night is back on Saturday, September 30 - bigger and better than before.

Over the Hedge: the story of a radical movement's
heroic challenge to the power elite

Just say no to the multiplex and enjoy a great flick the old-fashioned way - with friends and family in an outdoor setting.

This year's movie night features the first-run hit Over The Hedge - an animated adventure that will appeal to anyone who likes their CGI cute and cuddly.

Bring loved ones (sorry, no pets allowed) and a blanket. Gates open at 6:15 PM; the cartoon starts at 7:25 PM, followed by the feature at 7:30 PM.

Pizza, popcorn, hot dogs, soft drinks and other tasty treats will be available for purchase. Ticket prices are also family friendly: $6 for adults and $3 for kids.

Actives / Associates Corner

Fall is fast approaching, and with it comes the work parties critical to the lake's health. Actives and Associates can use work parties to log service hours before the end of the year.

2006 Fall Work Parties:

Sunday, Oct. 22, 9 AM - Noon
Sunday, Nov. 19, 9 AM - Noon

As usual, show up in work clothes and bring gloves. Coffee and donuts provided. The October 22 work party will be devoted to clearing the ever persistent tule grass. (If you have them, bring waders or rubber boots.)
